Master of Science in Architectural Sciences with a Concentration in Lighting

For those with a background in architecture, design, or a related field.

This is a 9-month program designed for individuals with backgrounds in architecture, interior design, engineering, or related disciplines who are interested in specializing in lighting. This Fall-Spring program provides an immersive and interdisciplinary experience focused on the art, science, and technology of light.

Students engage in a rigorous curriculum that covers a wide range of topics, including lighting technologies and applications, design, human factors, physics of light, lighting controls, sensors, optics, and metrology—the measurement and quantification of light. Hands-on learning is emphasized through access to state-of-the-art laboratories and project-based coursework. The program culminates in a master’s project in collaboration with faculty and external partners, offering students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.

Graduates of the program enjoy a strong employment record, pursuing careers in architectural and lighting design firms, technology companies, manufacturing, research institutions, and industry organizations. Many also choose to further their studies in Ph.D. programs or enter fields such as medicine, where expertise in lighting and human factors is increasingly relevant.

While the program does not include a guaranteed summer internship, it offers a comprehensive and intensive learning experience that equips students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a wide range of lighting-related careers.
