Under-Cabinet Lights

Under-cabinet lights are incorporated into kitchen cabinetry to provide task lighting for the countertop workspace. Switch under-cabinet lights separately from other fixtures in the kitchen so that the lighting is used only when needed, and make sure that the controls are in a convenient location. Mount fixtures as close to the front of the cabinet as possible without exposing the light source to view. Check that the light fixture is properly concealed to avoid glare from a seated position. A shielding board may be added to conceal the fixture. LEDs and T5 linear fluorescent lamps (tubes) are appropriate for under-cabinet lighting.

Cautions

  • Glare can be a problem with under-cabinet lights for people in seated positions, so conceal the bulbs, , such as with cabinet moulding.
