Recessed Troffers

A recessed troffer houses fluorescent lamps (tubes) above the ceiling line. Troffers are typically used in commercial applications, but can be used in garages, utility rooms, and basements with dropped ceilings. They distribute light downward, but vary greatly in the spread of the light distribution pattern. Recessed troffers are best used where high light levels are needed throughout the room. Locate fixtures near important visual tasks.

Cautions

  • Choose troffers with diffusers that have a wide spread, avoiding those with deeply recessed parabolic louvers that have a very narrow spread.
