Recessed Downlights

Recessed downlights are housed above the ceiling line. This style of fixture is best for uninsulated ceilings and situations where a clean ceiling line is desired.

Locate fixtures near important visual tasks, such as over a sink. To minimize glare and shadows, mount fixtures to the side and slightly in front of, or slightly behind the task.

It is easiest and least expensive to install recessed downlights in new construction or during major remodeling. An existing downlight that is designed for use with an incandescent bulb can be upgraded to LED with a recessed downlight retrofit kit or installation of an LED directional bulb.

Cautions

  • Fixtures used in an insulated ceiling need to have an IC-rating.
