Making the most of your partnership with the LRC

Peter Morante, LRC Partners Program Director

Hello!
For those of you who do not know me, I am Peter Morante, director of energy programs and other duties as assigned. One of those other duties is overseeing the Partners Program. As part of that assignment, I will write a column for the Partners’ newsletter each quarter. This issue I want to start with how to get the most out of your partnership with the LRC.

New Educational Offering – Free!

A new addition to the LRC’s educational outreach program is a series of Web-based teleconferences on different lighting topics. (See the next Partners newsletter story, Live! from the LRC: Partners Discounts Available, for details.) As a Partner, you may participate in these educational conferences free for one site and 50% off for any additional sites or individual participation. You may want to offer this educational opportunity to internal personnel working in these topic areas. This is also a great chance to invite customers to attend at your site, as a means of offering value and enhancing customer relations.

I encourage you to take advantage of this new offering. Try it. You’ll like it.

On-site Seminars

The LRC also offers short lighting seminars (one to four hours long) at Partners’ facilities as part of our Partners visit at no additional cost. You choose the topic. For example, LRC Partner Xcel Energy has asked us to conduct a seminar for their customers and account representatives on hospitality industry lighting. The California Energy Commission has asked us to speak to lighting industry experts on the latest lighting research results conducted at the LRC. These are just a few examples of what we can provide and are another means for the LRC to help you offer value to your customers and internal staff. All we ask is sufficient notice to prepare a presentation. To reduce travel expenses, we prefer to conduct these seminars at the same time as the Partners visit.

Commercialization Opportunities – Anyone want to manufacture a self-commissioning photosensor?

Andy Bierman of the LRC has developed and patented a photosensor that can be commissioned by virtually anyone in three minutes or less. The digitally based photosensor technology overcomes the trials and tribulations experienced with commissioning analog-based photosensors.  Field demonstrations and installations have proven how easily these photosensors can be installed and commissioned. Besides saving energy, customer acceptance of this photosensor has been high.

The LRC is looking for a manufacturer to commercialize this product. Royalties would be paid to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a portion flowing back to the LRC to promote additional lighting research.

If you are interested in pursuing the commercialization of the new photosensor or want more information regarding this product, please contact me at (518) 687-7173 or moranp@rpi.edu.

Call Us – We can answer your lighting questions

The LRC staff is available to answer lighting questions for you and your staff. The best way to get an answer is by contacting your Partner Liaison. Here is a list of the LRC Partner Liaisons.
