Terminology LRC Online Store Main Menu Orientation About CEUs

Lighting Education Online is an interactive, Internet-based education program for building, design, and facility management professionals who want to learn more about light and lighting. It is a comprehensive, professional education program in lighting.

The first course available through Lighting Education Online is "Lighting Technology" and provides a comprehensive overview of lamps (light bulbs), advanced lighting technologies, ballasts, luminaires (lighting fixtures), and lighting controls. The next course to be added will cover lighting guidelines for schools, offices, and healthcare facilities. Courses will also be added on lighting design, the "human factors" of lighting, lighting evaluation, and other, more advanced, topic areas.

Lighting Education Online is the first and only university-based lighting education system in which courses are completed entirely over the Internet. There are no additional books to purchase or assignments to complete and mail in. All learning is done "online" at each participant's convenience and at his or her own pace. Participants can ask LRC Professors questions as they complete the courses simply by clicking on the "Help" icon at the top of each page.

As part of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an accredited university, the LRC will track participants' progress through the program and award continuing education credits (CEUs) and a certificate for all courses completed successfully. These CEUs will also accumulate toward a Continuing Education Certificate in lighting. For more information about CEU's, click here.

There are no pre-requisites for Lighting Education Online. Courses begin at a basic level, and more advanced courses will be added over the coming months, so students will be able to progress in their level of lighting knowledge. Courses are very affordable and will be priced according to the number of CEUs awarded. The fee for the first course, "Lighting Technology," is $125.00, and participants will receive 6 CEUs upon successful completion.

NOTE to New York residents: Because the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) generously provided funding for the development of this program, New York State residents can take this course for only $25.00.
