Graduate education

Admissions

If you would like to enroll in one of the graduate education programs offered by the LRC, we recommend that you first talk to Dan Frering, our manager of education. He will explain the application process in detail and answer any specific questions you may have. The LRC also encourages people considering applying for any of the graduate programs in lighting to visit the LRC for an interview with program faculty. Please contact Dan Frering if you wish to visit the LRC.

To be admitted to graduate study at the LRC, you should have:

  • A bachelor's degree in a field related to lighting
  • One year of college level math with a "B" grade or better

In your completed application package you must include:

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A personal statement that outlines your interests, relevant background, and professional aspirations
  • A Graduate Record Exam (GRE) report
  • A sample of your creative work in the form of a project report, an essay, or a portfolio of graphic work
  • Transcripts from previous undergradute and graduate study

If your primary language is not English, we also require a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) report.

Financial aid
Admission applications must be received by January 1st to be considered for financial aid.
